PUBLICATION OF THE WOMEN IN MOTORSPORTS CONFERENCE LEGACY REPORT

Last year the FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission, in partnership with the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, united forces for the first ever joint event for Women in Motorsports that was hosted in Finland. The conference brought together almost 40 high level speakers and more than 100 representatives from 25 different countries across every continent.

To celebrate the one year anniversary of this historical conference, the 2020 Women in Motorsports Legacy Report was published. The report sums up the main findings of the conference and includes legacy messages from several speakers.

FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission Director Nita Korhonen:
“On the first anniversary of the historical Women in Motorsports Conference, it is a great pleasure to remind the extent of the impact that our first ever joint event made. I hope that as a legacy of the conference we all recognize the importance and the power of our co-operation. We can only rise by lifting each other.”

FIA Women´s Commission President Michèle Mouton:
“Over the last 11 years, FIA´s and FIM´s women´s commissions have had a great collaboration sharing knowledge, experience and best practices. The 2019 Women in Motorsports Conference was a landmark and it underlined how we can learn from each other creating a bigger community of inspirational women working in so many areas of our two different, yet related sports.”

FIM President Jorge Viegas:
“For the FIM it is very important to include both women and men in every aspect of our activities. Equity is the key for all of us and we definitely are on the right path in this regard. Last year´s conference was a big success and we will keep on doing our best to make the world of motorcycling as inclusive as possible.”

FIA President Jean Todt:
“FIA is committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive culture across motor sport. The Women in Motorsports Conference successfully organised in Finland last year was a great networking platform for FIA and FIM to jointly promote gender equality, encourage gender-balanced participation, and empower women to reach leadership positions.”

WIM ACTIVITIES

Women Bikers’ in Kenya celebrated International Female Ride Day, the world’s only synchronized women’s motorcycle day on Saturday, 22nd August, 2020 to #JUSTRIDE.

Due to the Ministry of Health Guidelines in Kenya for Covid-19, we had to divide ourselves into three groups to ride to different destinations in Sagana and Nyeri.

It was truly an experience like no other – exhilarating, liberating, and fulfilling to promotes the sisterhood in the biking community in Kenya.

Since we could not conduct any CSR activities like in previous years, we promoted a road safety campaign to build awareness with other road users to ‘SHARE THE ROAD. LOOK TWICE FOR MOTORCYCLES’ while simultaneously encouraging other women to take up the sport. About 50 lady bikers and supporters came out to bond, create memories and enjoy the open roads on two wheels!

WOMEN MOTORCYCLE RIDERS SHIFT INTO GEAR FOR WORLDWIDE ACTION ON INTERNATIONAL FEMALE RIDE DAY

Women motorcycle riders and motorsport enthusiasts on six continents and over 120 countries will take to their motorcycles to “Just Ride!”, Saturday, 22, August, 2020 for the officially rescheduled 14th edition of International Female Ride Day® (IFRD). The globally synchronized action will see women once again govern the world’s roads, tracks and trails for the single most powerful, and longest running women’s motorcycling action.

IFRD was created in recognition of female motorcyclists on a cause to make the world sit up and pay attention just one day out of the year. The visibility of the day continues to be important. The IFRD “Just Ride!” call-to-action evolved from the fight to make normal and known, the diverse numbers of women riding motorcycles. IFRD ensures women are well represented across all disciplines of the activity of motorcycling and throughout the Powersports Industry. The day similarly sets to inspire other women who have not yet explored motorcycling, to learn to ride and obtain their motorcycle license.

As with many events and happenings in 2020, International Female Ride Day® was rescheduled from its usual first Saturday in May. Naturally participants have been provided with complete Coronavirus guidelines on the IFRD website. These are provided as a supplement to any state, local, territorial, or tribal health and safety laws, rules, and regulations with which gatherings must comply.

Take the day to support women motorcycle riders in your region. There are countless ways to celebrate the day, safely while helping spread awareness of motorcycling and motorsport for women.
