NATIONAL MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 5 – WELKOM
The National Motorcross Championship heads to the heart of the Free State for the fifth round that is set to take place in Welkom this weekend.
Husqvarna South Africa’s Grant Frerichs said the team will be the wild card this weekend. “Welkom will be an interesting day for the Husqvarna Motocross team with both MX1 and MX2 riders just fighting for ‘on the day’ results, both Josh and Michael only joined the season after a few rounds which left them with no chance in the championship so each race day is a stand-alone event and an opportunity to prove themselves without having to worry about the bigger picture” he said.
“We look forward to Neil Vd Vyver finding his feet again and challenging for race wins as he tries to wrestle his way back into the pro mini championship conversation. Michael’s speed is undoubtedly there he just needs to put the pieces of the puzzle together and Josh has been putting in the work to improve on his last few races and fight for another podium” he went on to say.
Josh Mlimi has high hopes for the race saying: “I am really looking forward to the Welkom National, I really enjoy the track and the layout, it suits my style as you have to be technical yet aggressive! He added: “I’ve been putting in the work so I’m excited to see what we can do. Ready to fight and give it my best shot.”
Michael Docherty in turn said: “I haven’t ridden the Welkom Motocross track in ages but from what I can remember the soil is really good which makes the track really good for racing with lots of lines and options so I’m looking forward to going to battle once again and hoping to finally put a Motocross race day together with no issues and solid results.”
