With the first-ever FIM Intercontinental Games (ICG) now less than a month away, FIM North America is putting the finishing touches to its preparations to take on the other five FIM Continental Unions (CONU) of Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Oceania at the iconic Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto in Spain on 30 November and 1 December.

Representing a major landmark in the FIM’s one-hundred-and-twentieth anniversary year, the inaugural ICG – the City of Jerez FIM Intercontinental Games – will feature Supersport and Supersport 300 classes with R7 and R3 machines provided by ICG Official Partner Yamaha Europe. More disciplines, including Motocross and Enduro, will be added as the biennial event becomes more established.

FIM North America’s challenge in the Supersport 300 category will be led by eighteen-year-old Team Captain Avery Dreher from Florida, the 2023 MotoAmerica Junior Cup Champion. He will be backed up by twenty-year-old Mikayla Moore from Maryland who is the American Motorcyclist Association’s Female Racer of the Year for 2024 and part of the Royal Enfield ‘Build, Train, Race’ programme that aims to highlight women in motorcycle culture in North America.

The team’s final two R3 riders are eighteen-year-old Californian Maxwell Toth who has been based in Barcelona in Spain this season while competing in the FIM JuniorGP Moto2™ European Championship and Matthew Chapin from Maryland who, at sixteen years old, is the youngest member of the team and already a multi-time national WERA Road Race champion and 2024 MotoAmerica Junior Cup Champion.

Team Captain in the Supersport category is twenty-six-year-old former Motocross racer Hayden Shultz from Arkansas whose ultimate ambition is to race the FIM MotoGP™ Grand Prix World Championship or the FIM World Superbike Championship. Shultz will be joined on an R7 by thirty-year-old Mallory Dobbs from the Pacific Northwest who is a top-ten contender in the FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship and eighteen-year-old Blake Davis from Virginia, a former MotoAmerica Twins Cup champion.

FIM North America’s R7 rider line-up is completed by nineteen-year-old Rocco Landers from Oregon, the 2019 MotoAmerica Junior Cup Champion and a rider with valuable European experience having contested selected rounds of the 2020 Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup.

Featuring a mix of youth and experience, FIM Africa’s eight-rider team contesting the inaugural FIM Intercontinental Games (ICG) is preparing to take on the other five FIM Continental Unions (CONU) of Asia, Europe, North America, Latin America and Oceania at the iconic Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto in Spain on 30 November and 1 December.

All eight FIM Africa riders are from South Africa with eighteen-year-olds Abigail Bosson and Chris Wright teaming up with twenty-year-old Taigh Janse van Rensburg and Kgopotso Mononyane, who at seventeen is the youngest member of the team, to contest the R3 category.

Bosson has shown great domestic form this year and has wildcard experience in the FIM Women’s European Cup while Wright is a front runner in the Italian CIV SS300 series and Van Rensburg has also enjoyed considerable success this season racing in Italy. Mononyane has scored points in the 2024 Red Bull MotoGP Rookie’s Cup.

Leading FIM Africa’s R7 riders into action, thirty-seven-year-old Clint Seller is hugely experienced and a multi-time champion in South Africa. He will line up alongside thirty-eight-year-old Nicole van Aswegen who competes in the FIM Women’s Circuit World Championship and twenty-three-year-old Dino Iozzo who this year contested the CEV Spanish Championship and knows Jerez well.

The team’s youngest R7 rider is twenty-year-old Leungo Gaorekwe who also races in Spain and is a huge fan of the Jerez circuit.

Damion Purificati, FIM Africa Team Manager, said: “When I received a call asking if I could manage the African team I was super-proud. I am so excited and can’t wait to show the world what we are made of. As a manager I believe the only challenge we will have as a team is not knowing the Circuit Jerez while many of the other teams have raced there for years, but I do believe it will only be a challenge for the first day.”

Bringing together teams from all six of the FIM Continental Unions (CONU) of Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, Latin America and Oceania, the inaugural FIM Intercontinental Games (ICG) will take place on 30 November and 1 December 2024 at the world-famous Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto.

A major part of celebrations to mark the FIM’s one-hundred-and-twentieth anniversary year, the first edition of this biennial event, the City of Jerez FIM Intercontinental Games, will be limited to Supersport and Supersport 300 classes – although this will expand to include other disciplines including Motocross and Enduro as it becomes established – with Yamaha Europe, as Official Partner, providing R7 and R3 machines.

In keeping with the spirit of the ICG to provide a gender-neutral platform for young riders to showcase their talents on an international stage, the eight-rider FIM Europe team ranges in age from sixteen to twenty-eight with representatives from five different nations competing in the colours of their CONU.

Team Captain for FIM Europe in the R3 category is seventeen-year-old Alessandro Di Persio from Italy. A talented musician and rapper, Di Persio finished third this year in the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU FIM World Cup. He will be joined by the team’s two youngest members, sixteen-year-olds Gonzalo Sanchez from Spain and Italy’s Josephine ‘Joy’ Bruno. Sanchez competes in the Yamaha R3 bLU cRU FIM World Cup where this year he missed the title by three points while Bruno has impressed in the 2024 FIM Women’s European Championship Supersport 300 class.

The final member of FIM Europe’s R3 effort is twenty-two-year-old multi-time national champion Tomás Alonso from Portugal who this year has competed in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship.

FIM Europe will be led into battle in the R7 class by twenty-one-year-old Team Captain Elia Bartolini from Italy who finished 2024 placed twelfth in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship. His back up will come courtesy of twenty-five-year-old Frenchman Enzo De La Vega who was part of the third-placed team in the Superstock class of the 2024 FIM Endurance World Cup and twenty-eight-year-old Maria Herrera from Spain who was second in this year’s FIM Women’s Circuit World Championship and has also competed in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship as well as Moto3™ and MotoE™.

The team’s R7 quartet is completed by twenty-three-year-old Valentin Folger from Germany who was second in this season’s Yamaha R7 European Cup.

The final countdown to the inaugural FIM Intercontinental Games (ICG) is very much underway, with the event scheduled to take place in one month’s time at the iconic Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto in Spain on 30 November and 1 December. The teams from all six of the FIM Continental Unions (CONU) of Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America and Oceania have now been confirmed for this groundbreaking competition that will is one of the jewels in the FIM’s one-hundred-and-twentieth anniversary celebrations.

The ICG will bring together the six FIM Continental Unions in a way never seen before and will provide an outstanding and important international platform for young riders in partnership with all FIM Promoters.

With the first edition of this biennial event, entitled the City of Jerez FIM Intercontinental Games, limited to Supersport and Supersport 300 classes – although this will expand to include other disciplines including Motocross and Enduro as it becomes established – R7 and R3 race machines will be provided by Yamaha Europe as Official Partner.

Each CONU will sport its own colours and field eight riders with four contesting each class. In keeping with the FIM’s ongoing commitment to diversity, each CONU will field at least one female competitor in both classes. The age of the riders will be according to the sporting rules of each discipline.

In 2024 the competition will be contested over three classes – Individual R7, Individual R3 and overall Continental Team – with separate categories within the individual classes for men and women. ICG points will be awarded to each rider according to their finishing position in each discipline and these will be added to the other team riders’ points to determine the winning CONU.

FIM President Jorge Viegas stated: “In one month this project will finally come to life. The FIM Intercontinental Games will be unique in bringing together all six FIM Continental Unions. It is a landmark competition that I have been keen to see happen since I first proposed it many years ago and I am delighted that we will finally see the first edition play out on the wonderful Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto very soon.”

With the first-ever FIM Intercontinental Games (ICG) scheduled to take place in Spain at the end of the year, the teams from all six of the FIM Continental Unions (CONU) of Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, Latin America and Oceania have been announced.

A field of forty-eight competitors – comprising riders from 19 countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, France, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Thailand, the USA – will assemble for the inaugural ICG at the world-famous Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto on 30 November and 1 December 2024. A biennial event which will be named after the city in which it takes place, the City of Jerez FIM Intercontinental Games will be organised with the support of la Junta de Andalucía.

The inaugural edition will be limited to Supersport and Supersport 300 classes – although this will expand to include other disciplines (Motocross and Enduro) as the event becomes established – with Yamaha Europe, as Official Partner, providing R7 and R3 machines.

Dunlop will be the official tyre supplier and will also provide its racing service throughout the competition, while BETA UTENSILI will support the FIM Continental Unions with their professional mechanical tools and toolboxes.

Riders will wear their CONU team colours with electronic airbag suits and gloves supplied by SPIDI, boots by XPD, while Airoh will provide all riders with their FIM Racing homologated GP 800 helmets and Panta Racing Fuel as the official supplier of fuel.

Each CONU will sport its own colours and field eight riders with four contesting each class. In keeping with the FIM’s ongoing commitment to diversity, each CONU will field at least one female competitor in both classes. The age of the riders will be according to the sporting rules of each discipline.

This new competition will benefit from exceptional TV coverage thanks to the support of the FIM circuit racing promoters Dorna who will carry out the TV production and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) Sports Europe who will ensure broadcasting on their digital platforms.

The ICG is intended to provide an outstanding international platform for young riders in partnership with all FIM Promoters. In 2024, the competition will take place over four races, two per class: R7 and R3. The points awarded to each rider based on their ranking will be added to the points of the other team members to determine which of the six FIM Continental Unions will be the first to win the Games.

FIM President Jorge Viegas, who initially proposed the idea of an ICG to the FIM Board of Directors in 2002, said: “As the date for the first-ever FIM InterContinental Games draws closer the sense of anticipation is growing stronger and stronger. It is very exciting to be bringing together all six FIM Continental Unions in the FIM’s one-hundred-and-twentieth anniversary year and to have riders from across the world competing underlines a very real sense of unity. I am confident that this is just the beginning and that the ICG will continue to develop and grow.”
