As the countdown to the 2026 FIM Intercontinental Games continues, we meet 23-year-old Cameron Durow, who will captain the FIM Africa MX2 Team in Brazil.
Cameron is a nine-time South African National Champion and races for Red Bull KTM South Africa. His international experience includes competing in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship from 2022 to 2025, as well as the British National Championship and selected MXGP events this year.
His motocross journey began early. Cameron started riding in a local field with friends when he was just three years old and entered his first race at four.
For Cameron, motocross is about the freedom and control of racing a motorcycle at the highest level, while making decisions under intense physical and competitive pressure.
“The feeling of racing a motocross bike is like no other.”
Being selected for the FIM Africa team is another important chapter in his career.
“It is a huge privilege to represent both my country as well as my continent.”
Cameron sees the Games as an opportunity to show what African motorsport has to offer. He believes the FIM Africa team has the potential to open eyes to the talent on the continent.
He is also looking forward to experiencing Brazil, a new country, culture and lifestyle, while meeting riders from around the world. His preparation is similar to that for any top-level international event, with the December date giving him time for a strong off-season before the competition.
Cameron describes resilience as his biggest strength. After being sidelined by four injuries in 2019 and missing almost an entire season, he returned to racing and went on to win six South African National Championships.
He is currently working on his early-race intensity, focusing on getting good starts and making quick moves when he does not get the start he wants.
One of his proudest career moments came in 2019, when he won both the 125 National and MX2 National overall titles on the same day, with the heats running back to back.
Now, as captain of the FIM Africa MX2 team, Cameron has set himself a clear target for Brazil:
“My goal for the FIM Intercontinental Games is to win the MX2 division.”
Away from racing, Cameron enjoys cycling, training and 3D printing, often creating parts for his bicycle or motorcycle. His favourite track is TEZA MX Track in South Africa, his dream bike is a full factory-spec 450 from a Red Bull KTM MXGP or USA team, and he describes his racing style as “Calculated.”
