Every year, more countries and continental unions add value to the celebrations of the FIM Sustainability Week. Asia will be represented by two countries, Japan and Indonesia, which have registered significant activities. Japan will organise the HESO meeting for the second time, and Indonesia will activate two major seminars aimed at training a new figure inside the Federation: the Sustainability Coordinator.
Education: Cornerstone for Indonesian Federation
This year marks the first time that Indonesia has joined the FIM Sustainability Week. The National Federation (IMI) started its journey towards more sustainable motorcycling when it organised its first Sustainability Seminar in Jakarta in 2017, where 13 officials received their environmental licences. Now, they are taking a significant step forward by introducing a new role inside the Federation: The Environment Coordinator. This official will be crucial in coordinating all the environmental actions inside the National Championship, underlining the importance of sustainability in our sport. The seminars will also provide valuable training to event organisers in environmental protection actions and regulations, further reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.
Jeffrey JP and the International Sustainability Steward Abimanju Lestarijono led the activity and were responsible for overseeing all the conferences. The conferences were organised over three days. The first day was a presentation of the National Sustainability Strategy, the second was a full-day seminar for the candidates to be environmental coordinators, and the third was dedicated to the organisers of national events.
One of the main objectives of this seminar was to present the National Sustainability Strategy and the National Environmental Code based on the FIM Environmental Code. Around 35 participants from different regions of Indonesia assisted, and approximately 12 representatives of different club organisers.
Indonesia is organising one of the most important events on the international calendar, and the KiSS Programme is also involved in this significant event. In coordination with the FIM Asia Environmental Commission, The International Foundation for Motorcycle, and The National Federation (IMI), four schools in the Lombok region will receive support, and the sanitary facilities will be completely renovated.
Mount Fuji witness of the second HESO tourist meeting
Japan celebrates the HESO tourist meeting at Yamanaka-ko Lake in Yamanashi for the second time during the FIM Sustainability Week.
This year will be the second time Japan has joined the FIM Sustainability Week, and this momentous occasion is highlighted by work supported by the Motorcycle Federation of Japan (MFJ), including the recent Keep it Shiny and Sustainable (KiSS) initiative at the TrialGP of Japan.
Riders from all over Japan will gather to think about the future of motorcycles and the global environment: More than one thousand riders will meet at the foot of Mount Fuji as a symbol of respect and desire for the coexistence of riders and nature.
The activities planned for this important gathering are:
• Ride Green Action(RGA: Riders participating in the event are encouraged to use “green” items to show their support for the environment and the event’s purpose. The venue, located at the foot of Mt. Fuji, will be surrounded by greenery. Riders wearing green items to show their support will receive free coffee!
• Reuse and Barter: A barter event for motorcycle-related products such as motorcycle wear will be held. Also, requesting samples and other new products from various manufacturers. Celebrities who love motorcycles and famous racing riders are also planned to exhibit.
• Distribution of Memorable Stickers Special: Stickers will be distributed to riders who wear green clothing on the day as proof of their support for the event. Last year we distributed MFJ, FIM RIDE GREEN, and event stickers.
• Test Ride experiences: Exhibition of electric motorcycles being developed by various companies. We propose a next-generation motorcycle life that can be enjoyed while coexisting with the nature.
• On Stage: A symposium on the theme of the natural environment and motorcycles will be held on the main stage to coincide with World Environment Day and FIM Sustainability Week. A talk show will be held with several people, including Tohoku University professor Hideteru Ishida, singer Takako Shirai, and Shinji Kazama.
Kattia Juárez, FIM International Sustainability Commission Director stated: “I admire the cultural diversity on the Asian continent, and having these two events included in the official FIM Sustainability Week programme is an example of the reach and influence of our sustainability programmes. On the one hand, the leadership side of the Indonesian Federation (IMI), shows us the adoption of its sustainability strategy, the creation of an official at the national level who will contribute to the sustainability of the events, and the preparation of the organisers as well as the creation of the national environmental code. Then on the other hand the participation of one of the great areas of motorcycling, tourism, which presents us with an event totally focused on demonstrating, as they say, “the coexistence of the motorcyclist with nature” an event that will present various activities oriented to create awareness, circular economy, and reflection. Thank you for these efforts.”
