DARRYN JUST MISSES OUT ON Q2, AIMS FOR POINTS ON SUNDAY IN BRNO

DARRYN BINDER #15

“Today we woke up to some good weather: this morning I felt good, slowly improving and gaining confidence lap by lap. I was quite positive going into Q1, but unfortunately I didn’t make the cleanest of laps at the end, and I missed out the Q2 for just a couple of tenths. Overall I feel like our pace is not bad, and making a small step for tomorrow I’ll hopefully find my way into the points.”

DARRYN TAKES HOME POINTS FROM FOURTEENTH PLACE FINISH IN THE #GERMANGP

DARRYN BINDER #15

“We’re coming off quite a few difficult grand prix so this weekend we’ve been trying to find our way back, and I can say we did find some positives and a little bit of speed. Unfortunately I never made it to Q2. Today it was a dry race and not having so much time on the dry on Friday I new it could have been a little bit tricky today. Overall I think we have more positives then the previous grand prix so I might have not been the fastest but at least we had a bit more pace and managed to keep it up today. Unfortunately we score just one point but let’s take the positives and keep focus and working. We’ll try again in Brno.”

BRAD TAKES SEVENTH PLACE IN ACTION-PACKED #GERMANGP

The distinctive and technical challenges of Sachsenring and a historic site for Grand Prix motorcycling were complicated further thanks to the changing climate covering the sold-out circuit west of Chemnitz. After a wet and chilly Saturday for qualification and the Sprint, the 30-lap Grand Prix took place under brighter and drier skies but with the continued threat of showers.
The Red Bull KTM contingent dropped to two-rider representation after the bad luck for both Maverick Viñales and Enea Bastianini but Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder were determined to demonstrate the potential and competitiveness of the KTM RC16 race package at the midway point of the season.

Brad was in top ten running from the first lap, and the onus for Red Bull KTM fell to him after Acosta fell, and he moved up to scrap with three other rivals for P6. The South African endured tire pressure problems for the duration but stayed on two wheels when a series of other riders fell into the gravel. He came home with 7th and nine points and was less than a tenth of a second from 6th.

Brad Binder
7th and 12th in the championship standings:
“From a working point of view and the weekend as a whole this was definitely a step. The main race was super-difficult, such a long race and a lot of guys going down. It was chaos out there and very tricky for the front end. I was in a group the entire time and that was hard for the tire pressure and keeping the whole thing up. It was sketchy so, even though I would have liked a much better result, it was an accomplishment to get to the line.”

BRAD RACES TO SEASON-BEST SIXTH IN RAIN-HIT #GERMANGP SPRINT RACE

The latest MotoGP double-header began with the trip to the Sachsenring and for the German Grand Prix. The short 3.6km layout of the 13 corners of the course close to Chemnitz produces one of the slowest average speeds of the year and means a lot of turning and edge-grip emphasis.

The Sprint was the longest of the season in terms of lap count. Brad was solid in the mid-top ten and made his way to 6th: bagging four points.
The German Grand Prix will involve 30 laps on Sunday from 14.00 CEST and with a drier forecast.

Brad Binder
10th in qualification, 6th in the Sprint:
“Today, honestly, was quite OK.It would have been nice to be on the 2nd row but 10th place: I don’t think it changed too much. I got off to a good start and didn’t quite have the pace to go with the guys in front of me. 6th was the best I could manage but it’s been a while since I’ve had a decent Sprint. 6th was better, and I’m looking forward to seeing how we go in the dry tomorrow…I hope it will be dry!”

DARRYN TAKES POSITIVES FROM DIFFICULT SACHSENRING QUALIFYING DAY

Free Practice 2 – GermanGP
24th – DARRYN BINDER #15 (11’34.656s)

Qualifying – GermanGP
21st – DARRYN BINDER #15 (1’34.915s – Q1)

DARRYN BINDER #15

“A really different day for us: we woke up with the rain, then we had a mixed-condition (wet track, starting to dry up), but luckily it rained, so it was a full wet qualifying. I was improving lap by lap, really trying my absolute best, but unfortunately I hadn’t enough to pass to Q2. I’m super disappointed because I know that if I could have got through to Q2, I think I could have got a decent grid position. Anyway we take the positives, work on the things we need to, and let’s see what the weather brings tomorrow.”
