INFORMATION – FIM CROSS-COUNTRY RALLIES WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS – 2020 CALENDAR UPDATE 1 JULY – RALLY KAZAKHSTAN CANCELLED

Please find enclosed the Press Release / FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championships 2020 Calendar UPDATE 1 July.

Rally Kazakhstan cancelled
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in Kazakhstan and Worldwide, the Automotosport Federation of the Republic for Kazakhstan and the FIM regret to announce that they have had to make difficult decision to cancel Rally Kazakhstan in 2020 rescheduled to 14 to 20 September. The Rally Organising Committee had great hopes of a speedy improvement in the global situation, with the relaxation of the imposed quarantine and other various restrictions in connection with the pandemic.

However, with a heavy heart and in accordance with government advice, the organisers have had no choice but to cancel the event in order to ensure their main priority, which as always is the health and safety of all participants, officials, volunteers and fans.

As a consequence, the final classification of the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship and World Cups will be established on the basis of the 2020 revised FIM calendar.

Please find enclosed the Press Release / FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship 2020 Calendar UPDATE 30 JUNE.

2020 FIM Speedway Grand Prix Events cancelled in Russia & Germany

Due to ongoing global health concerns and crowd restrictions in Russia and Germany in light of COVID-19, we regret to announce that the 2020 Russian FIM Speedway Grand Prix and 2020 Aztorin German FIM Speedway Grand Prix have been cancelled. The events were scheduled to take place at Anatoly Stepanov Stadium on 29 August and Teterow’s Bergring Arena later this year, respectively.

The decisions were made after careful consideration and consultation with the FIM, BSI Speedway and the local venues, as well as MFR in Russia and DMSB in Germany, with the health and safety of supporters, riders and staff remaining the top priority.

Following discussions with the Anatoly Stepanov Stadium and Bergring Arena, we are pleased to announce that both the Russian FIM Speedway Grand Prix, and the Aztorin German FIM Speedway Grand Prix will return in 2021. The Aztorin German FIM Speedway Grand Prix will take place on Saturday 22 May, while the Russian FIM Speedway Grand Prix’s timing will be announced at a later date.

“We are disappointed to be cancelling two of our most popular events, but we look forward to sharing more detail in the coming weeks about the 2020 world championship contingency plan we’re developing with the FIM, involving a minimum of eight Speedway Grand Prix events,” said Paul Bellamy, Managing Director & SVP of Motorsports, IMG.

He added, “In the meantime, we thank our fans for their continued support of the series, and we look forward to returning to Russia and Germany in 2021.”
