INFORMATION – FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP – 2020 CALENDAR UPDATE 18 JUNE – SWEDEN’S 2020 FIM SPEEDWAY GRAND PRIX EVENTS CANCELLED

Please find enclosed the Press Release / FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship 2020 Calendar UPDATE 18 JUNE.

Sweden’s 2020 FIM Speedway Grand Prix Events Cancelled
Due to ongoing health concerns and crowd restrictions in Sweden in light of COVID-19, we regret to announce the cancellation of the 2020 Norrbil Swedish FIM Speedway Grand Prix and 2020 Scandinavian FIM Speedway Grand Prix. The events were scheduled to take place at Hallstavik’s Credentia Arena on 25 July and Malilla’s Skrotfrag Arena on 15 August, respectively.

This decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with the FIM, BSI Speedway, Svemo and the local venues and authorities, with the health and safety of supporters, riders and staff remaining the top priority.

Paul Bellamy, Managing Director and SVP of Motorsports, IMG said: “COVID-19 has had a significant impact on the 2020 schedule and we are very disappointed to not be returning to Sweden this year.

“We remain committed to staging a 2020 world championship and crowning a world champion in October. And as such, we are working closely with the FIM on a contingency plan to ensure a minimum of eight Grand Prix events take place in 2020. More detail on this will be shared in the coming weeks.

“In the meantime, we thank our fans for their ongoing patience and support, and look forward to returning to action in the near future.”
